Cheney Rodeo -- July 10 - 12

Cheney’s annual rodeo event is scheduled for July 10th through the 12th at the Bi-Mart Arena. Queen Ashley Benedict will reign over the three-day event and will be available for autographs—along with Tim Vredenburg (cowboy protection)—at Bi-Mart on Friday afternoon.

Park and Community Center Bond - Fall 2009

In January of 2009 the Wren Pierson Community Center was closed indefinately due to severe winter storm damage. Without a viable community center many critical services have been displaced and are struggling to remain available to citizens. The City of Cheney will recieve funding from insurance settlements due to the loss of the Wren Pierson Community Center and will be able to match it with real estate excise tax dollars to the amount of $1 million dollars. The City is proposing a Park and Community Center Bond in the fall of 2009 to establish an additional funding source to build a new community center as well as the first phase of the 50 acre park.

Business LIcenses Required as of June 1, 2009

The Cheney City Council has approved an ordinance which establishes the requirement for businesses operating within the Cheney city limits to obtain a business license. This applies to contractors, home occupations, and door-to-door sales, as well as to businesses operating from a location in our business district.

Community Services in Temporary Locations

With the collapse of the Wren Pierson building and subsequent demolition, all occupants were forced to relocate to temporary sites.
